What is the Northern Most State in the U.S.?

    By Alex WilliamsJanuary 31, 2024

Did you know, what is the northern most state in the U.S.? With a population of just over 731,545 people, it’s also one of the least populated states in the country. Despite its small size, this state is home to some impressive landmarks and natural wonders, including Denali (formerly Mount McKinley). If you’re looking for an adventure, this state is definitely worth a visit. Let’s get to know what is the northern most state in the U.S., the western most state, most southern US state, and the easternmost point of the US.

    1. What are the Farthest Points in the United States?

Kure Atoll in Hawaii to Log Point in Florida, there are plenty of places to explore as these are the farthest points. Elliott Key is one of those places. This beautiful island is located just off the coast of Florida and is part of the Florida Keys. It’s a popular spot for fishing, diving, and snorkeling, and it’s also home to some of the most photographed sunsets in the country. Also, check out What Country am I in?

    2. What is the Northern Most State in the U.S.? Which is the Northernmost Point in Continental US?

Alaska is considered the northern most state in the U.S. The Last Frontier is a land of stunning beauty, with endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. There’s something for everyone in Alaska, from hiking and camping in the summer to skiing and snowboarding in the winter. There are also plenty of opportunities to experience Alaskan culture and history. Museums, cultural centers, and events like the world-famous Iditarod dog sled race help visitors learn what makes Alaska unique. And, of course, no trip to northern most state in the U.S. i.e. Alaska would be complete without seeing some of its amazing wildlife like bears, moose, eagles, and more can be found throughout the state. 3. List of 10 most Northern U.S. States

Apart from Alaska, here is the list of the 10 most northern most state in the U.S.

    • Pennsylvania,
    • Maine,
    • Vermont,
    • New Jersey,
    • Massachusetts,
    • New York,
    • Connecticut,
    • New Hampshire,
    • Delaware, and
    • Rhode Island. (See Is Bahamas part of US?)

    4. What is the Southern Most State in the U.S.? What is the most Southern US State?

Besides, discussing the northern most state in the U.S, there is also a craze regarding the most southern US state among the 48 contiguous states which is Florida. It’s located at the very southern tip of the country and is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Though the most southern US state (among all the states) is Hawaii. It is located in the central Pacific Ocean, about 2,000 miles from the mainland US. Hawaii is a popular tourist destination known for its beautiful beaches and warm climate. (See Why is Europe called the Peninsula of Peninsulas?)

    5. What is the Eastern Most State in the U.S.? What is the Easternmost Point in North America?

If we’re talking about mainland states, Maine is the easternmost point state. But if we include territories, then it’s Sail Rock, off West Quoddy Head in Maine. This rock is part of the Quoddy National Wildlife Refuge, extending outward from Maine into Canadian waters. So, there you have it; the easternmost point in the United States (depending on how you define it) is Sail Rock.

If North America is the continent, the easternmost point is Cape Spear, Newfoundland, and Labrador, Canada. (See What is the Time Difference between Australia and USA?)

    6. What is the Western Most State in the U.S.? What is the Westernmost Point in the lower 48 States?

The western most state in the United States is Alaska, specifically the Aleutian Islands which is also the northern most state in the U.S. The easternmost state is Rhode Island. The westernmost point in the lower 48 states is Cape Alava in Washington state. Must read about the Rhode Island Smallest State in USA.

That’s it for our list of the northern most state in the U.S., western most state, most southern US state, and the easternmost point. Did your state make the cut? This is inaccurate. The fact Michigan isn’t even included, especially when comparing it eye-to-eye with other states automatically discredits this…
