Our home planet Earth does not stop surprising us with its magnificent nature. It provides us with mountains, hills, rivers, coastlines, wetlands, and much more, which not only amazes us with its prepossessing aura but also helps and protects us from various natural objects as well, making a balance in the world. But how does this natural feature come into existence? As we discuss these, you might wonder, what is a natural place and what is an example of a natural feature? Read the article to know the answers and facts related to these topics.

    1. What is Natural Feature?

The term natural feature refers to a feature that has developed over time as a result of the interaction of physical, geological, chemical, and biological processes. Hence, it means that it is the feature of an element that has formed naturally under the influences of several reactions and environmental processes, without any human interaction. (See Why is the environment Important?)

    2. What is a Natural Feature called?

A landform is generally known as a natural feature. It is because, it depicts the natural characteristics of the surface of the Earth such as the mountains, hills, plateaus, cliffs, and much more. Landforms are referred to as natural features since they are created naturally by a combination of physical, geological, and biological processes. In geological terms, these processes are also known as exogenic and endogenic processes.

    3. What are Natural Features of a Place?

The natural features of a place consist of elements and processes such as soil types, slopes, vegetation, geology, surface water, aquifers, recharge areas, climate, floodplains, aquatic life, and animals, drainage patterns. These are known as the natural feature of a place because these determine the way the place was formed. (See What are Physical Features in Geography?)

    4. How are Natural Features made?

Mountains, rivers, and valleys, are what make up the natural features of a place. Landforms refer purely to these organic formations that exist on the surface of the earth. These are mostly formed by the movement of the tectonic plates within the globe or by weathering and erosion on the planet’s surface.

    5. What are Four Natural Features?

The four features of Earth include mountains, hills, lowlands, and other landforms. The other natural landforms include the seas, oceans, weather, and climate which gives locations their unique personality. Check out How can You make a List of Australian Landscapes?

    6. What is an Example of a Natural Feature?

Mountains are the best example of a natural feature. It is defined as the feature through which a landform is created by various environmental processes. Mountains are the perfect example of landforms that are formed by natural forces and processes. They are formed when the portions of the Earth’s crust, known as plates collide with each other. This process is known as plate tectonics. There are certain natural forces behind the formation of mountains and other landforms. These forces, in terms of geography, are known as exogenic and endogenic forces.

    7. What is the Best Known Natural Feature?

The best-known feature includes several natural wonders of the world. It is because of the various natural characteristics or processes that have resulted in the formation of those beautiful natural wonders. Several natural wonders are listed below:

    • Glaciers and icebergs in Greenland: Glaciers and icebergs are the thick compressed form of ice when they fall from mountains. This compression of snow that results in the formation of ice involves centuries. Greenland is known as the land of icebergs, furthermore, because of Greenland’s Sermeq Kujalleq, it is known as the iceberg capital of the world.
    • The Great Barrier Reef in Australia: When free-swimming coral larvae cling to submerged rocks or other hard surfaces along the margins of islands or continents, coral reefs are first formed. Reefs develop one of three main structural types as the corals swell and grow, which are fringing, barrier, or atoll. The Great Barrier Reef is one such vivid example of the best-known features of a place located in Australia.
    • Mount Everest: Mt. Everest is worshipped as the Mother Goddess of the Earth. It is the best-known because of the way it formed and how it protects the lands surrounding it. It is also highly influential in changing the weather and climate of the places surrounding it. It is the best example of plate tectonic formations which involved thousands of years.
    • Gran Sabana in Venezuela: When magma from deep within the earth pushes toward the surface but is unable to penetrate the crust, plateaus are formed. The massive, flat, impenetrable rock above it is raised by magma instead. Gran Sabana is one such alluring plateau situated between Venezuela and Brazil.

    8. Is Tree a Natural Feature?

Yes, a tree is considered one of the features of nature. In many ecosystems, large old trees come out as single, isolated individual trees, or sometimes, they may also occur as small groups or as scattered trees. Even though they are geographically confined, single large old trees and small trees still play a variety of crucial ecological roles. To retain these functions, great old trees must be protected and managed as minor natural features, which frequently calls for specialized fine-scale conservation measures. Last but not least trees as well as rocks are parts of landforms and hence are considered natural features.

    9. What is a Natural Physical Feature?

Natural physical feature is those features that form natural elements of this earth. These include landforms, waterbodies, soil, climate, and natural vegetation, which make the earth a life-sustaining place. The natural physical feature does not include any man-made objects. Even if humans were not present in the world, these natural elements would still form. Learn What are Large Water Bodies called?

    10. What is a Natural Place?

It is a geographic location with unique physical and cultural characteristics that emerged naturally rather than via design or plan. A region of land or water that has native plants predominating in naturally occurring patterns is referred to as a natural area. This comprises riparian zones, marshes, shrublands, and grasslands.

We may conclude that natural communities can be identified by their plant species composition, vegetation forms such as a forest, shrubland, or marsh, and a particular set of physical circumstances such as water, light, nutrients, and climate. These features came into existence after centuries of environmental changes and processes. These processes resulted in the formation of landforms, waterbodies, and their characteristics. The best-known natural feature results in an amazing landform. There are several natural wonders which are described by their own overwhelming features.
