Many questions run through our minds when we hear of Bigfoot. The theory of whether or not could Bigfoot be real is a topic that has always been debated as it could have endless possibilities and answers. But the proof bigfoot is real is something we all desperately hope for. Let’s decipher it!
1. Legend of Bigfoot
The legend of the Bigfoot has been quite popular with over 1,709 sightings in just California itself. It was almost like a daily routine for the people in California as they had become accustomed to finding odd features like enormous footprints on open grounds, odd animal odors, and patches of strange thick fur on trees in the forests. This made everybody wonder could bigfoot be real.
2. History
From time to time, when these sightings were shot on camera rolls, many argued that it was just a man wearing a costume. However, people who believed in the existence of Bigfoot said that they indeed were a species that still walked the land. The legend of Bigfoot states that they exist in the canopy of woods, living a secret life in the wilderness.
Spectators from all walks of life do want to believe that the Bigfoot was just a group of apes who didn’t completely evolve into human form. Hence, their features are quite similar to those of a human. But, due to an incomplete evolution process, they still have the bodies of large apes. (See What is the Difference between Apes and Monkeys?)
3. Other Names
Bigfoot goes by several names all over the world, some of the most famous being Yayali, Skunk Ape, Bigfoot, Yeti, Yowie, Sasquatch, and many others. People from all over North America have reported sightings of this creature for centuries. Many Native American cultures also write about primate-like creatures that roam the forests and dark woods. They even talk of animals, sometimes more like humans and sometimes more like apes.
4. Could Bigfoot be Real: Belief of Tribes
Dzunukwa, a female with a hairy form who lived deep in the mountainous forests, has been mentioned in the mythological history of the Kwakiutl tribe. But she wasn’t spotted too often in the forest because either she’d be looking after her children or would be asleep. So, in California, the age-old pictographs that were drawn appeared to show a family of giants that had long and shaggy hair. They were called mayak datat by native tribes.
Throughout the ages and eras, some tribes from different origins are believed to have welcomed them into their tribe. While there were other tribes too, who hated the Bigfoot and believed that they were just giants who looked like ogres. (See Oldest Living Species Alive Today)
5. Witnesses
Native Americans weren’t the only ones who had sighted Bigfoot. During the 19th and the early 20th centuries, the newspapers devoted whole sections to reports made by trappers, miners, and woodsmen who claimed on the sightings of wild men, monkey men, and bear men in the woods.
There was a famous group of prospectors in 1924 vacationing in a cabin on Mount St. Helen in Washington. They claimed that they were attacked in the middle of the night by a group of ape men. Later, one of the prospectors admittedly stated that these attacks were not unprovoked. They confessed that they had taken a couple of shots of the creature earlier in the day. This made everyone wonder could bigfoot be real.
6. Bigfoot as Nickname
Unfortunately, there are many instances where one animal is mistaken for another, This might be the basis of explaining the origin of the Bigfoot. But the term Bigfoot, used in newspapers, was described as a common nickname given to large, aggressive grizzly bears who would eat sheep, cattle, and attack humans. (Also see Is Liger A Real Animal?)
7. Discoveries
- All of these assumptions were silenced in 1958 when a Californian tractor operator named Jerry Crew stumbled upon a series of giant muddy footprints that resembled primate-like animals.
- During that same time, a man named Ray Wallace also discovered large footprints that were of the Bigfoot. However, after his death in 2002, this was considered to be a hoax in the end.
- Many such discoveries and findings were constant occurrences even during the 20th century, and to date such proof Bigfoot is real instances have taken place now and then. Though their frequency has skimmed a little but could Bigfoot be real is a question that researchers are still finding a concrete answer to.
8. Theory or Myth?
So, could bigfoot be real? The dark, huge, and furry figure that lurks in the woods is neither a myth nor a theory. It solely relies on the fact that the sightings of this creature are a reality, and that there were indeed humans in the size, shape, and form of apes. (See Top 8 World’s Smallest Animals)
