1. What are Distinction Marks?
You might have heard of the term distinction multiple times in your life. However, to understand what distinction means, we need to get into the depth of it. Do you remember, when you used to do well in your studies and score good marks? Well, when you have been good in your studies or have at least been consistent, chances are that you could score distinction. We can easily relate distinction with excellence.

2. What is the Distinction Class Percentage?
Since, the percentage of distinction can differ from country to country, let us look at the distinction class percentage of different countries and how many opportunities it unlocks for you.
- Netherlands: The Netherlands is one of those countries that serve as a gold mine for education for international students. The grading system in the Netherlands follows a grade 1 to 10 procedure. A student to score distinction in the Netherlands has to secure at least grade 8 or 8.5 and above.
- Spain: Spain follows the same grading system as the Netherlands. However, to score distinction in Spain, one needs to score a grade of 10.
- Germany: In Germany, the grading system is a little different. Unlike Netherlands and Spain, Germany has a grading system which follows a grade 1 to 6 procedure. However, it is a little different as grade 1 means distinction whereas grade 6 means failure.
- Switzerland: In Switzerland, the same grading pattern as Germany is followed. However, in Switzerland, grade 5.5 to 6 means distinction and grade 1 means failure.
- The United Kingdom: The UK follows a percentage pattern for grading. If you score 70% or above, that means you have passed with distinction.

3. What is First Class with Distinction?
You can easily score first-class marks which are equivalent to 60% marks or above if you study hard and are an average student. On the contrary, if you want a first class with distinction, you need to score 75% and above marks. The distinction is the highest cadre of excellence in education. 4. What is First Class with Distinction Percentage?
Even when you are scoring around 60% marks you are considered to be a very good student. Although to get into reputed universities, you need to score even better. So when we talk about first class with distinction we know that it does not come easy. You need to work hard and study better. 5. What is First Class with Distinction grade?
Graduating with first class with distinction means that you have worked very hard on your education. Not everybody can make this score. You need to be dedicated and focused if you want to achieve marks like this. So, when a student gets the first class with distinction, they have scored a grade of 8 to 8.5 and above. 6. What is the Difference between Distinction and First Class with Distinction?
Distinction and first class with distinction are the same thing as to score a distinction you should score more than first-class marks. That means if a person earns that distinction mark, he can refer to it as first class with distinction. Let us explain this with an example. Have you ever had a cake? Isn’t it delicious? Now imagine this cake is delicious even when it has no frosting. You are down to eating the entire thing just because it is so good. Now visualise the very same cake but with frosting. It is the same cake but the frosting makes it even better.
This is the same case with distinction and first class with distinction. Following distinction comes first class. First class in itself is a very big achievement for a student. 7. What are the 5 University Grading Systems around the World?
In total, there are 7 types of university grading systems. However, here we are going to acquaint ourselves with the 5 most famous grading systems around the world since we already discussed how grading systems can be different in different countries. They are:
- Grading percentage: Here, a student is graded based on the percentage secured. The percentage ranges from 0 to 100%. A student can score anywhere from 0% to even 95% and above with dedication.
- Letter Grading and variations: The letter grading system comprises letters from A to F. Grade A determines excellence and the F determines failure.
- Mastery Grading: Here the students are graded based on Masters or Passers. Students who secure masters are considered excellent in education whereas passers are average students.
- Common scale: In a common scale, students are graded based on pass or fail. If they score above the passing marks, they are considered a pass and if they do not they are considered a failure.

8. How is Master’s Degree and Bachelor’s Degree Grading Scale different?
A master’s degree rating grading scale consists of four major levels first class, Upper second class, lower second class, and third class honours. Students scoring below third class honours are considered a fail. While talking about the first class honours, the students achieve grades which are equivalent to grade A or 75%.
