What does Orange and Green make?

Colors are an important part of your day-to-day life. This property of light seen by you gives such warmth and color to everyone’s life. Life without colors would be like an abyss-filled void and darkness. If you trying to create a life in art with vivid colors and trying to learn how to create new colors by mixing new ones or looking for color combinations that provide a new color like what does orange and green make, fret not! You will know about all of this as you continue reading the article for in-depth information.

    1. What are Colors?

As mentioned before, colors are a property of light that is seen by humans because of the presence of cone cells in our retina that can detect the colors from light. One must understand the color basics to succeed in any visual-based art.

Do you know, what is a color wheel? It helps one get a better understanding of colors as the color wheel is an illustrative circular model of color hues that shows a relationship between primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Digitally the exact color is shared between groups through hex codes. One should note that some people insert 24 colors in the color wheel along with interior circles and points which show the color mixture. (See What are the top 10 favorite colors?)

    2. What are Primary Colors?

Primary colors are color groups from which variant colors are obtained when mixed in different proportions. The three primary colors of the palette are red, blue, and yellow from which we get the secondary colors. (See Why are bright colors eye-catching?)

    3. What are Secondary Colors?

These colors are derived from the primary colors from which tertiary colors are obtained. There are three secondary colors and they are orange, green, and violet. So what does orange and green make? Which color is produced when we mix violet and green? Continue reading the article to know about it. (See  Is black or white really a color?)

    4. What are Tertiary Colors?

Out of 12 colors present in the color wheel, the majority (½) is occupied by the tertiary colors. There are six tertiary colors present they comprise Red-Orange, Yellow-orange, Yellow-green, Blue-green, Blue-violet, and Red-violet, and are formed by mixing the secondary colors with the primary colors. (See What color is camouflage?)

    5. What are Warm and Cooler Colors?

Apart from this color mixture, one should take into account that choosing the right color for an event or theme is very important. Colors have a psychological effect on humans and each color brings out different emotions. Besides the above category, colors are also classified based on the temperature or effect they give. They are divided into two categories, warm and cold colors.

The colors which are right next to red are called warm colors and the ones next to green are known as cooler colors. The colors under these two categories are fixed and are not variable. But for instance, hues from the same category can be warmer or cooler than one another. To give you an idea, the color red is warmer than yellow while yellow is cooler than red. The next segment will give you an idea of what does orange and green make. (Also read What Orders do the Rasta Colors Go In?)

    6. What Colour does Orange and Green Make?

If you are trying to mix colors for your new school art project or a project on a bigger level, you should go through the basics of the color wheel above. You already know that orange and green are secondary colors that are obtained by mixing red and yellow, blue and yellow respectively.

    • From the above knowledge, you came to know that orange and green lie on the opposite side of the spectrum and are contrasting to each other. Orange falls in the warmer category while green is a cooler color.
    • It is vital to note that the resulting color depends on the amount of the two colors being mixed. If the proportion of the two colors is equal you get a new different color or else you might get shades of the color having a dominant proportion. (See Which fruit has a blue color?)
    • When mixed in equal proportions orange and green make the new muddy brown color. Why brown? Why not something else? As said before, orange and green are two contrasting colors lying on the other side of the spectrum. When mixed in equal amounts they produce mixed muddled colors as each color has its variety of color spectrums.

Now that you have a clear understanding of how the colors work when mixed, you could find the answer to what does orange and green make. Again, if the proportions vary, you might get a slightly greener or orangish shade. (See The Art of Teaching Art)

    7. What are some of the Basic Color Mixtures?

    Some basic color mixtures are:

    • Red + Green = Maroon
    • White + Red = Pink
    • Black + White = Grey
    • Red + Violet = Magenta. (See Which color is obtained by mixing red and yellow colors?)

So, now you know what does orange and green make, and a lot more about the colors, try some random color mixtures and have fun with your art project. (See Types of Trees with Purple Flowers)
