Knowledge

The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ (approximately 4 BC-AD 33). His life, message, and work are detailed in the four New Testament Gospels. Jesus was a carpenter from Nazareth in Galilee in the first century. He rose to the rank of master educator, performing numerous healing and deliverance miracles. The Ten Commandments, according to Christian doctrine, are significant laws from God that tell Christians how to live. Today we will explain the 10 commandments of God, the 7th commandment in the Catholic Bible, and what are the seven commandments of Jesus in this article as well.

1. How many Commandments are there in the Bible?

According to medieval sages, there are a total of 613 commandments from Genesis to Deuteronomy. Most of them are out of date. Out of these 613, in the next segments you will get to know what are the seven commandments of Jesus and also the 10 commandments, so read till the end of this article. (See How many books are there in the Bible?)

2. Who wrote 10 Commandments?

According to the Torah’s Book of Exodus, Moses wrote the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai and engraved them with God’s finger on two stone tablets held in the Ark of the Covenant. He spent 40 days and 40 nights with God, without any food or water, and writing the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments, on the tablets. (See Why is Christianity popular in Europe?)

3. Are there Two Sets of Ten Commandments?

Yes, there are two full sets of the Ten Commandments in the Bible (Exodus 20:2-17 and Deut. 5:6-21). Additional versions of the Ten Commandments can be found in Leviticus 19 (verses 3-5, 11-13, 15-16, 30, 32) and Exodus 34:10-26, which is frequently referred to as a ritual decalogue. To know the answers to what are the seven commandments of Jesus, read till the end. (See Which are the 66 books of the Bible, in the same order as listed in the book?)

4. What are the 10 Commandments of God in Order?

The 10 commandments of God are:

  • No other gods will come before Me.
  • There is to be no making of idols among you.
  • You must not misuse the name of the Lord.
  • Respect the Sabbath day.
  • Respect your father and mother.
  • You must not murder.
  • You shall not commit adultery.
  • You must not steal.
  • No one should ever give false testimony against another.
  • You are not to covet.

5. What is the 4th Commandment?

God’s fourth commandment is to respect one’s father and mother.

Honor thy father and thy mother, that thou mayest be long-lived upon the land which the Lord thy God will give thee (Exodus 20:12). (See What is the difference between grace and mercy in Christianity?)

6. What are the Seven Commandments of Jesus?

Jesus offers believers orders; He does not ask us to perform them, but rather instructs us to do so. If you truly love me, he said, You will follow my instructions. (John 14:15). To get an idea of his sayings and what are the seven commandments of Jesus, take a look at the following points:

  • Love one another,
  • Pray for your enemies,
  • Repent,
  • Think Jesus is in the Father,
  • Hold your cross and come with me,
  • Go and Make Disciples, and
  • Pray Always.

7. How can You Explain the 7th Commandment to a Child?

Thou shalt not commit adultery means that we shouldn’t bring dirty thoughts and actions into our marriages. When a man and a woman marry, they pledge to love and respect one another. If one of them breaks this commitment by seeking the kind of love and affection they should only receive from their spouse from another person, it could be stated that they have committed adultery. Similarly, we do not allow impure thoughts to cloud our perception of ourselves as God’s image and likeness.

To assist children to comprehend some of the concepts involved, you can attempt to show the problems that arise when items that must remain pure become contaminated. Demonstrate, for instance, how adding something like dirt to a glass of pure water will alter its appearance or flavor. The impurity might taint the beverage. The water becomes ineffective for humans who require pure water for feeding or cleansing. Some children may grasp how environmental contamination impacts the quality of life on earth. The seventh and tenth commandments in the Catholic bible emphasize respect and reverence for the property of others. (See What are the Different Types of Folklore?)

8. What is the 7th Commandment in the Catholic Bible?

Thou shalt not commit adultery means that relationships or marriages should not be impured with dirty thoughts and actions. You should be committed to one person and shall not commit any adultery with your partner. (See What are the Various Branches of Christianity?)

9. What is the 8th Commandments of God?

You shall not steal. (Exodus 20:15)

The eighth commandment teaches us that getting wealth in sinful ways is bad.

This is obviously true for thefts of any size, whether they are found or not. However, the eighth commandment should not merely apply to pickpockets and bank robbers. Theft encompasses all actions that violate, infringe upon, or remove the property of another. This encompasses far more than merely tangible or intangible property. It also encompasses the inherent rights that God has granted to every human being. (See 15 Most Worshipped Gods in the World)

10. How many Laws did God give Israel?

You already know what are the seven commandments of Jesus, note that the Lord gave 613 Jewish commandments, not just ten. These commandments are called mitzvot in Hebrew. The Ten Commandments are listed together in Exodus 20 because God said them out loud. (See What are the Teachings of Jainism and Buddhism?)

11. Is Lying a Sin?

Yes, one of the Ten Commandments is Thou shalt not bring false witness against thy neighbour. This is why many Christians consider lying to be a serious sin. (See Was Jesus Really a Carpenter?)
