  1. What is a routing number?

In the US, banks and many other financial institutions routing numbers are used to identify themselves. They are always made up of 9 digits and are also called routing transit numbers, RTNs or ABA routing numbers.

  2. Where are they used?

This number is also needed by the Federal Reserve Banks for processing Fedwire Fund Transfers.  ACH networks also require a routing number for processing electronic funds transfer.

They are primarily used to transfer money from a business account to make payments online or by phone. Additionally, they are also used when transferring money internationally or processing checks.

  3. The easiest way to find chase routing number offline

The simple and the best course of finding the chase routing number is looking at the check you write. On every check, it is written on the bottom left corner of your chequebook. It is always of nine digits that are surrounded by some semicolon. It is on every check issued by all the banks.

  4. Finding the chase routing number online

If you do not have a chequebook and really need to know the chase routing number, you can also get it online. Here are the steps stated to find it online:

    • The first step is to sign in to your online bank account. The app or website will ask for your user name and password. If you have never done that, you can create your online account within minutes.
    • After you sign in to the online account, go to “See Statements.” You can open any one statement as a PDF, and there on the top right corner, you would see your account number
    • Snap on the last four digits of the account number, and you would see the routing number arrive above your account number.
    • You can also use the search option to find the routing number. On the search bar, mention routing number, and you would get it.
  5. Chase routing numbers: What do the digits signify?

When you see the chase routing number, you might think, what do they mean? The first four figures are known as the Federal Reserve Bank identifies. The next four digits identify your bank, and the last number is known as a check digit. It is measured through an algorithm, and it serves in confirming the authenticity of the other eight digits of the bank’s routing number.
