‘From’ is a science fiction horror drama series created by John Griffin. The show airs on the Epix network and premiered its first season in 2022.
1. What is the Plot of ‘From’ Season 1?
The story follows a group of people who get trapped in a mysterious town called Colony House. This small town is surrounded by a dense forest from which no one has ever returned. The town has been somehow transported from the normal world into a nightmarish realm.
The main protagonist is Jim Matthews, a sheriff’s deputy who gets stuck in Colony House along with his family – wife Tabitha and daughter Julie. Other residents of the town include Kenny, his grandfather Boyd, Kristi and her daughter Elisha.
There are also some sinister townspeople who seem to know more than they let on. As the season progresses, the trapped people desperately try to find a way out of Colony House. But the surrounding forest seems to go on endlessly.
Strange and terrifying creatures start attacking the residents at night. It’s also revealed that some townspeople are working with these monsters for sinister reasons. There are flashbacks to the lives of certain characters like Boyd, showing haunting events from their past.
The mysteries keep building up regarding what Colony House really is and why these people were brought here. Much of the horror comes from the unknown nature of this place and its nightmarish inhabitants.
2. Were Survivors Able to Escape? Ending Explained
In the season finale, the survivors finally find a hidden tunnel under Colony House while hiding from the monsters. This tunnel leads directly into the forest. Jim, Tabitha and some others enter it, believing this is their chance for escape.
After walking for hours, they reach a clearing. But here they discover hundreds of tunnels, including the one they just exited. The horrible truth dawns on them – there is no escape. The forest loops victims back to Colony House.
In a final twist, Tabitha vanishes after putting her hand into a strange opening in a tree. Jim is devastated and decides they must return to warn the others. The season ends with the group realizing they are trapped in this otherworldly place for unknown reasons.
3. What Happens To Boyd Stevens?
Boyd gets separated from Sara after they discover a lighthouse and hear ship horn sounds coming from a nearby harbor. Boyd loses strength due to spider bites and tells Sara to go inform the others about their discovery while he stays behind.
Sara then sees the mysterious “boy in white” who tells her that she and Boyd need to enter one of the “faraway trees” to escape the creatures. Boyd goes into the tree first but ends up trapped in a dark, narrow, chimney-like space with no apparent way out.
The finale ends without revealing Boyd’s ultimate fate, though theories suggest the space he is trapped in may be inside the lighthouse. It is also unclear if Sara entered the tree after Boyd and where she may have ended up.
4. Is ‘From’ Season 1 Worth Watching?
The first season has a rating of 7.7/10 on IMDb based on audience reviews. Positive reviews highlight the great storytelling. Some felt the show declined in quality after a promising start.
On Metacritic, professional critics gave Season 1 a Metascore of 63 based on 12 reviews. Rotten Tomatoes gives Season 1 a Critics Rating of 86% and an Audience Score of 78%. Reviews call it a compelling and addictive show with memorable characters.
