“Agent Game” is a 2022 spy thriller directed by Grant S. Johnson. The movie revolves around a group of CIA agents and operatives, in which just about everyone has a secret or otherwise hidden agenda.
The film begins with an aging man sitting on a bench on a curiously empty street, who is later revealed to be Mel Gibson’s character, a shady intelligence bigwig named Olsen. He observes something, gets up from the bench, removes a gun from under his jacket, and starts shooting as a mournful cello plays.
The movie cuts away to Antwerp, Belgium, where a team of mismatched agents played by Adan Canto, Katie Cassidy, and Rhys Coiro extracts a target and brings him, hooded, to a private plane.
Once on the plane, the agents start getting unauthorized messages on their phones. Meanwhile, Gibson’s character is conducting job interviews in Washington, D.C. It turns out he’s the guy who put the all-star team together and placed Annie Ilonzeh’s character in charge of them.
The hood comes off the guy on the plane at a certain point, and if you’re surprised by who is under it, it’s revealed to be Dermot Mulroney’s character, Harris.
The movie juggles three different timelines of a single story, which would be an intriguing and engaging approach if the story had any genuine interest to begin with.
The film clumsily tackles the CIA’s use of rendition at black ops prisons. The veteran cast and bullet-riddled action keeps the adrenaline flowing.
Will There Be A Sequel to Agent Game?
The possibility of a sequel to Agent Game seems to be open, as the ending of the movie has left room for continuation. The film ends on a cliffhanger with Olsen contacting a man and telling him, “We have a problem”.
Additionally, a review on IMDb also suggests that the film sets itself up with an open-ended finale, indicating that a sequel might be in mind.
Furthermore, the film’s open-ended conclusion and the unresolved fates of certain characters, such as Harris, Kavinsky, and Miller, hint at the potential for a sequel.
Therefore, while there has been no official confirmation of a sequel, the ending of the movie and the unresolved storylines suggest that a sequel to “Agent Game” is a possibility.
