Every 4th of July, the US wave their flags, which is of revolutionary significance. The entire US enjoys watching the fireworks shoot sparks into the night sky. However, it has been a question for many people; Why the American Flag includes Red, White, and Blue colour?

  2. The Stars

The number of stars displayed that began with 13, at present, reached 50, representing the current number of states in the union. The book on Symbolism of the American Flag was published in 1977 by the house of representatives. We could read one of its sentences as ‘The stars are a symbol of the heavens and the divine goal to which man has inspired from time immemorial; the stripe is symbolic of the rays of light emanating from the sun.

  3. The colours

The red colour on its Flag stands for courage, the white for purity, and the blue for justice. The Continental Congress made this interpretation. However, they did inform why these colours were chosen.

Alternating the 13 stripes represented the 13 original colonies when the US got their independence from Britain, and they declared themselves as a sovereign union. (See What Is The Meaning Of A Black And White American Flag?)

  5. Etiquette

It is imperative to know about the Etiquette before trying to understand the symbolism or anything about the US flag. It implies one should respect the Flag by ensuring it never falls to the ground, nor should it be thrown, should be immediately replaced if it gets worn out, and never dipping it to any group or individual. Also, the commercial use of the US flag has been restrained by the US government.

  6. Half-Staff

When a nation is in a state of mourning, it means the US flag is lowered. For instance, on 30th May, Memorial Day, and Armed Forces Day on 11th September. The US flag is at half-staff when a President, Vice President, Member of Congress (MOC), or a Supreme Court Member dies. In these scenarios, the president may proclaim every resident, agency, or assemblies of the United States to lower the Flag to show some respect. (See What Orders do the Rasta Colors Go In?)
