    A hurricane is a massive tropical storm that can go on for 500 miles or even more. It can create a lot of damage and havoc as it can go on for a week or even more. It is because hurricanes move slowly through the ocean. Storms have wind speed that ranges from 75 to over 200 miles an hour. They can often lead to severe destruction on whatever path they travel from.

    The eye of a hurricane or cyclone is the area that is quite different from the rest of the storm. This region, located at the centre of pretty intense tropical hurricanes, experiences calm weather. It has a diameter of around 19-40 miles and is surrounded by the eye-wall. The eye-wall is a ring of soaring thunderstorms where the highest winds and most severe weather occur. The eye is where the lowest barometric pressure of the hurricane occurs.

    The pressure outside the cyclone is as much as 15% higher than that in the eye. In tropical storms, the eye is usually characterized by clear skies and light winds, with asymmetric, towering eye-wall surrounding it. The eye, in weaker tropical hurricanes, is not properly defined. It can also be covered by a dense central overcast- a region of thick, high clouds that look pretty bright on satellite imagery. Disorganized or weaker hurricanes may also have an eye-wall that does not fully encircle the eye.

    Some of them may also have an eye that features heavy rains. However, in every hurricane, the eye is the region of the minimum barometric pressure of the hurricane. It is where there is the lowest atmospheric pressure at the sea level.

    Usually, the eye is located at the center of a storm or hurricane. It can differ significantly in size as well as shape. Generally, it is oval or circular in shape. It is probably this shape that gives it the name of an eye, as it resembles a human eye to some extent. The eye of a hurricane can be as tiny as only a few miles wide. However, most hurricane eyes come in a size range of 20 to 60 miles in width.

Otherwise, you would never realize when the eye of the hurricane would pass by, and you would get caught in the infuriating winds of the eye-wall.

    As per the scientists’ observations, a cyclone or hurricane’s eye can be specifically dangerous at open seas. Waves can start crashing in from all directions because of the shifting winds. It can create giant waves that can go up to a height of more than 100 feet! So, being on the water in the eye is also not a wise idea.

    There are times when the hurricane’s eye would be covered in clouds, while on other occasions, it would be so clear that you could see the ocean surface in the satellite photographs. If you stand on the land in the eye of a cycle, you would possibly clear and blue skies during the day while stars and moon at night.     Arguments among the scientists regarding various theories explaining the formation of hurricanes are still on. In particular, no one knows exactly how a hurricane or its eye, for that matter, is formed. There are not enough facts to prove at what point they are formed either. However, scientists know that the air within the eye, instead of the winds rotating around it, sinks and turns warmer.

    When the air temperature in the eye increases, there is a decrease in pressure, making the air drier. It leads to the evaporation of clouds, making the clear region which we consider as the eye. As per some scientists, a force is at work here. The Coriolis effect or force leads the winds in deflecting away from the hurricane’s centre, which creates a calm centre with winds starting to rotate at an increasing speed on all sides.
