When pure water is consumed the extracellular fluid becomes hypertonic to the ICF. Both the water as well as the ECF’s osmolarity decrease. The number of ICFs decreases, i.e. the fluid shifts happen and the volume of the ICF decreases.

12. What is Water made of?
