About The Author

My objective was not to make the soul legitimate in terms of science. The soul is legitimate, period. It doesn’t need validation. At least that was my perception and so I wrote The Seat of the Soul to share the things that were most important to me.  –   Gary Zukav

Gary Zukav is an American writer and a public speaker, who is best known for introducing the belief of the conjunction of temperament with the soul as the creation of authentic power. He believes that human beings are transforming from five sensory perceptions to a species that is not limited to only these perceptions. They are evolving through spiritual growth by the creation of real power which is an exclusive attempt that demands the maturing of emotional understanding, accountable choices, instinct, and faith in the universe. He narrates as alive, wise, and compassionate. All these senses together form a single sensory system, and the object of the sensory system is a physical reality. As people have become multi-sensory, they have transcended the restraints of their senses and are now progressing to explore different mechanisms of physical reality. Thus, they are now beginning to realize that they are spiritual beings.

The Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav was published in 1989, ranking first on the New York Times bestseller list for 31 consecutive weeks, and remained on the list for the next three years. (See 10 Scientific Benefits of Reading Books)

Now, let’s begin with The Seat of the Soul summary.

Chapter 1 – The Seat of the Soul: Evolution

No Understanding of Evolution is Adequate that does not have at its core that we are on a journey towards authentic power and that authentic empowerment is the goal of our evolutionary process and the purpose of our beings. –Gary Zukav

What schools teach us about evolution, is the evolution in physical materiality. In this chapter, the author highlights that all we have learned about evolution is the gradual blossoming of organizational intricacy. Now, we need to emphasize the thinking that a truly evolved being is the one that values others more than he values himself. Through this chapter, he says that true power is rooted in the deepest part of our existence. It cannot be purchased, inherited, or accumulated. Therefore, taking a holistic approach to every meaning and experience in real life is a necessary condition for aligning the experiential of existence with the soul, body, and personality. A truly capable person cannot make anyone or anything a victim. So, this is The Seat of the Soul summary of Chapter 1. (See Why some people find it hard to read a book?)

Chapter 2 – The Seat of the Soul: Karma

If we participate in the cause, it is not possible for us not to participate in the effect. – Gary Zukav

Karma refers to the spiritual proposition of cause and effect viz a good deed today will pave the way to a future worthwhile fortune. Similarly, a bad deed will lead to a messed-up future as per the Laws of Karma. The author says that most of us are acclimatized to the belief that our participation in the evolutionary process is limited to the duration of a lifetime. This belief reflects the stances of our five senses. Hence, a multi-sensory man also understands that he has nothing beyond his life, but knows his immortal soul. He also says that your personality in life is one of the countless experiences of your soul, which exists beyond time. He points that the vision of the soul is broad, and the impression of it is not limited by personality. This is The Seat of the Soul summary of Chapter 2.

Chapter 3 – The Seat of the Soul: Reverence

The decision to become a reverent person is essentially the decision to become spiritual person. – Gary Zukav

Reverence, the feeling of regard or appreciation for someone or something, is the most sublime trademark of the human soul. It is the glue that holds humanity together, which allows us to encounter the surpassing moments of wonder every day while remaining rooted in our principles of life. In this chapter, Gary states that our evolutionary karma and the foundation of reincarnation are neutral. He explains that actions and their reactions in the physical realm will activate energy, shape our experience, and in a way reveal the wisdom that our souls need to grasp. Thus, the resolution to become reverent is synonymous with the decision of inclining toward spirituality. This is The Seat of the Soul summary of Chapter 3. (See 15 Celebrities Who Read A Lot)

Chapter 4 – The Seat of the Soul: Heart

The higher order of logic and understanding that is capable of meaningfully reflecting the soul comes from the heart. – Gary Zukav

No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart. In this chapter, the author stresses the point that advanced logic and understanding can reflect the meaning of the soul only when it comes from the heart that beats and imparts life to a being. Life is worthless if there is no sense of motivation and devotion towards universal objectives of hard work, improvement, cooperation, love, gratefulness, and sympathy. Hence, this ends The Seat of the Soul summary. (See What is the meaning of ‘Home is Where the Heart is’?)
