Any animal that is kept as a personal company and not for working purposes is known as a pet animal. Cats and dogs are the most preferred and common pet animals. However, there is no limit on the size and type of animals that humans keep as pets. Some people prefer to have only special pure breed animals as pets while others adopt stray animals as pets too. B. Is Keeping Pets a violation of Animal Rights?

Animal rights are hardly known in our society. Most of the animals are either considered property or as a way of earning money. There are, however, regulations that broadly forbid keeping animals in captivity in a number of nations. They are wild animals and being kept in captivity has an impact on their physical and mental health, and thus keeping exotic animals as pets is against their rights. So, if any animal is kept as a pet that has its habits, body, or feelings altered is an act of violation.

7. Becomes Your Companion

I will not say they are your lifetime companion because they are living beings too and can, unfortunately, die in some time due to various reasons. 8. Becomes a True loyal Friend

Sometimes expecting loyalty from your favorite human or humans may be disappointing because they just cannot help it or support you. But your pet will be loyal to you in all conditions. The saying about dogs, the most loyal friend to humans are dogs is not mere words. (See How Dog see the World?)

These are some of the advantages I’ve listed, though there are endless numbers of pros. You will need to know all the advantages and disadvantages of owning a pet if you want to decide, how is keeping a pet beneficial for you. Also, why you should not own a dog should be clear if you take a look at the following disadvantages of keeping a pet:

1. Lack of knowledge as a Pet Owner

Many new pet owners are not as knowledgeable and tend to do things that are harmful to the animals. The lack of necessary knowledge can be fatal and leave a negative impact on your mind if you end up harming your pet. That guilt stays for a long and affects your mental peace. 2. Can take most of your Time

It is a fact because you have to make sure they are well-fed and have everything necessary with them before you leave for work. Even after work, you have to make sure that you spend some quality time with them and take them for a walk too. You need to care for them just as you would care for your own child. So, this may overwhelm you because sometimes you must be tired and not have the time and energy to do all those pet duties. (See Dog Health Problems Symptoms)

3. Can be Dangerous for Young Kids

I’ll refer to it as a double-sided game because if your children are not taught how to behave around a pet, they may act in a way that frightens the animal. They might get angry and ferocious with time. However, the likelihood of a pet being aggressive toward children is extremely low, but there are always outliers. (See 8 Tame Wolf Facts)

4. Can make a situation Unpredictable

They are animals and their instincts and reflexes cannot be predicted always. You may be very sure that your pet will not harm you. It is good to trust your pet and the training you gave them. But you always have to be prepared for the unexpected. (See Why are My Dogs Whiskers Falling Out?)

5. May cause Damage over a Fight

Since the pet is unpredictable, you should be prepared for handling situations occurring due to their rash behavior with another human or their pets. Another negative point from the list of advantages and disadvantages of owning a pet is that, if your pet bites another human or gets into a fight with their pets and injures him, you will have to cover the expenses. In the worst case, you will have to pay a penalty or give up your pet to the authorities. (See Can Possums be Pets?)

6. Can Disturb your Schedule

Animals have different sleep and waking cycles from humans, which is incongruous. As a result, you have to keep your pet dog or cat loose in the house at three in the morning. Yes, this does occur, and if you are a new pet owner, you might feel as though someone broke into your home. (See Can you have a pet squirrel?)

7. Can Make you a Cleanliness Freak

Cleaning your house on a regular basis is fine, but cleaning increases considerably if you have pets. Hair on furniture and other places, pee, potty, chewed rubbish, etc. are some of the things that need to be cleaned right away to keep your house clean. And this is surely time and energy consuming. (See Why do Mice like Cheese?)

8. Cannot Leave Pets Behind

If you enjoy going on outings and vacations, you have to think of your pet before planning any trip. With the responsibility of a pet, you cannot just pack your bags and leave. You have to either plan a trip with them or you have to hire a responsible pet sitter for the duration. But it can be dangerous for you and your pet because no one knows how the pet sitter would turn out to be. Also, it is a costly service, and thus, it is another disadvantage from the list of advantages and disadvantages of owning a pet.

9. Can Isolate you Socially

It can be on purpose or just a lack of time that after having a pet you get very little time to socialize. If you are an introvert, you find more ways to stay at home than to socialize. And if you are an extrovert, then you may not get enough time to manage work, family, pets, and your social life all at once. (See Bloodhound – Dog with Best Sense of Smell)

10. Can Break your Heart if Pets Die

I believe it is harder to move on from your pet when they die than from a broken relationship. If you have a pet, you know what I am talking about. Goodbyes are hard, and saying goodbye to your pet and living without them is not easy. You need a long time to recover and return to your usual self and even after that, the pain does not go away.

So, in this article along with the advantages and disadvantages of owning a pet, you got to know the answer to, whether is keeping pets a violation of animal rights, or, is keeping a pet beneficial. Also, I hope a bunch of reasons why we should not keep pets at home and why you should not own a dog are now pretty clear. (Also read How much is a Pet Lion?)
